As a coach, I, Lisa Menton, bring valuable knowledge learned from my personal financial experiences, as well as from training in financial coaching. My husband and I certainly were not immune to the "pay by the month" mentality in our society. We had several credit cards, house and car payments, education loans, and personal loans. Hey, we thought we were doing good because we made enough money to cover all the expenses, even if that meant we did not have but $50.00 to last until the next month. We both grew up poor and we thought "we were doing better than our parents" because we had a nicer house, better cars, etc. Well, this lasted until the medical bills began to pile up! We were so stressed and overwhelmed we didn't know what to do, so we turned to a debt attorney, and he suggested filing bankruptcy, and made it sound so good we thought all our problems would be over with. I must point out we were not strong in our faith, and we didn't communicate well with each other about money, and so missed the opportunity to allow God to guide us to a better solution. This was indeed the hardest 7 years of our marriage, and we have been together for 36 years as of 2024.
We began to take control of our finances, and we were partially debt free several times throughout our marriage, but we needed to figure out what was keeping us from being completely debt free. The most important piece was growing up and strengthening our relationship with God. The second important piece was finding the Ramsey Solutions website. We quickly realized we had done everything backwards and without finishing the processes to be completely debt free. Well, we are now completely debt free (we were both retired when this happened) and we are loving life! We have been able to be a generous giver to our church and to causes we believe in. We have also taken a "bucket list" trip overseas and saw places we never thought we would (all without a credit card).
As a retired educator, I realized I could use my Ramsey Financial Coach Master Training and Ramsey Preferred Coach Training to help others who are just starting on their own financial journey as well as helping those who are still trying to find the financial freedom they desire. I would consider it an honor and a privilege to help anyone reach their financial freedom and fulfill their life-long dreams.
